The Crime Prevention Unit is headed by Officer Durbin Lloren who is aided by a multitude of volunteers. Together, they inform the citizens of Madera of their Neighborhood Watch programs, helping residents to get to know each other and assist them in establishing group goals. The Neighborhood Watch program serves as additional eyes and ears for the Police Department, creating an environment in which people care about each other and their community reducing opportunities for crime. The positive bond between the Police Department and the community gains strength each time a Watcher reports possibly suspicious activity and provides a valuable service to Officers who can’t be everywhere at once.

Madera residents are invited to call (559) 673-9362 or come by the Crime Prevention Unit office in the Food for Less Shopping Center for help establishing a Neighborhood Watch Program in your neighborhood.

Unit members also provide school Safety Programs for pre-school through 6th grade and attend community events such as the Picnic-In-The-Park, MCH Safety Fair, John Adams School "Fall Festival" and many other events to hand out literature, ranging from safety coloring books for the kids to crime prevention materials for adults.
