Firearms Program Report Of Handgun Ownership
Attention: New California Residents
Effective January 1, 1998

Reporting Requirements
State law requires all new California residents to report any handgun(s) brought into this State to the California Department of Justice. This report must take place within 60 days of moving into the State. No report need be submitted if you sell or transfer your handgun(s) through a licensed firearms dealer within this initial 60 day period.

Use the Report of Handgun Ownership form. A separate form must be completed and submitted for each handgun brought into this state. Please print extra copies of the reporting form to meet your reporting needs.

Please be aware that your failure to comply with these mandated handgun reporting requirements could result in your criminal prosecution (Penal Code section 12072 (g)).

Form Completion Instructions
It is important that you fully complete the Report of Handgun Ownership form. A separate form is required for each handgun reported.

The completed form(s) must be returned with a $14.00 processing fee for each handgun reported. Payment may be made by check or money order payable to the Department of Justice. Do not send cash.

Form(s) and payment should be mailed to: Department of Justice Firearms Program, P.O. Box 820200, Sacramento, CA 94203-0200.
