Madera is a general law city, incorporated in 1907. The City operates under the Council/Manager form of government, with the Mayor selected by the City Council. An annual budget of $40 million and a work force of 215 full time employees provide the services of our Finance, Police, Public Works (including the Airport and Wastewater Treatment Plant), Community Development (including Planning, Engineering, Abatement & Compliance, and Building Divisions), Parks & Community Services, City Clerk, Administration, and City Attorney Departments.
City Hall, 205 West Fourth Street, houses the Administration, Finance, Community Development and City Clerk Departments. The Police Department is located at the east end of City Hall at 203 W. 4th Street. Parks and Public Works departments are located at 1030 S. Gateway Drive, and the City Attorney is located in the Housing Authority building at 205 N. "G" Street.
The City Council meets on the first and third Wednesday of each month, City Hall Council Chambers at 6:00 p.m. (Meeting time changed from 6:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. effective first meeting in February of 2007.
