   City of Madera Citizens' Academy

Maderans, let’s make a difference in our neighborhoods and community!  The City of Madera announces the second Citizens’ Academy.

Citizen Academies are in use throughout the United States.  They improve communication, provide education to citizens on public processes, and serve as a logical point of departure for individuals wanting to serve on boards, commissions, and elected office.  Madera’s program will be designed to be an introductory program for individuals who have an interest in becoming more engaged but who may have little or no experience.  We will include sessions on the role of the City Council, staff functions, finance, land use regulation, parks, police and fire, and neighborhood revitalization.  All sessions will run about two hours, depending on how much time you want to discuss ideas or ask questions.

There will be NO CHARGE or FEE to attend the Madera Citizen's Academy.  The program will be open to all Madera citizens, although space will be limited.  Anyone not selected for a class will be given priority consideration for the next class.  We anticipate six to eight evening sessions to be taught beginning around March (date not yet determined).  If you want to be more involved in your community, if you want to make a difference – this is a great place to start.  You’ll learn a lot and meet other Maderans who REALLY CARE, just like you.

Applications are currently available in City Hall at both the City clerk and City Administrator’s Office or you can download an application here
