City of Madera City Council – 3 Seats.Under the current election process, members of the City Council are elected “at large” and serve four year terms.“At large” means that registered voters may vote for any candidate running for office.
City of Madera Measure Establishing Districts and Mayor Elected At Large. Consistent with Vision Madera 2025, Strategy 302—District Representation, voters will be asked to decide whether members of the City Council shall be elected “by district” and the Mayor of Madera elected “at large” for a four year term. The measure would divide the City into six districts. “By District” means that candidates running for a seat on the City Council must reside within the district which they want to represent and only the registered voters residing within that district may vote to select the Council member for that district. “At large” means that registered voters may vote for any candidate running for office.If the measure passes, the first phase of district elections will occur in 2012. There are no term limits for Madera City Council members.
Council members serve four year terms.
An election for Council seats is held every two years on even numbered years.The City Council terms of office end in alternating years with three seats up for reelection in one election year and two seats up for reelection in alternating election year.
