Council Member Robert L. Poythress

Madera City Council

Robert Poythress is currently serving his second term in office as a Council Member.  Council Members serve four year terms.  Robert was first elected to the City Council in 2004 and reelected in 2008.

The Mayor’s position is rotated annually amongst the Council Members.  Robert previously served as Mayor in 2006 and 2011.

Council Members also serve as Board Members of the Madera Redevelopment Agency and Commissioners of the Housing Authority of the City of Madera. 

Robert is a native Maderan who graduated from Madera High School in 1974.  After high school, he attended California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, California and in 1978 graduated with a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Agricultural Business Management; and in 1998 he earned his graduate degree from Pacific Coast Banking School, University of Washington.

Robert has been in the banking industry since 1979.  He is currently Vice President and Manager of Citizen’s Business Bank in Madera, California where he has been since 2005.  He is also a partner in Teco Hardware and Poythress Farms.   

Robert is married to Carol Poythress.  They have three children, son Richard and daughters Rachel and Laura.

In addition to their regular duties as members of the City Council, the Redevelopment Agency, and the Housing Authority, Council Members are appointed to serve on other boards as representatives of the City Council.  They are also active in community organizations.
